Leslie Thomas "Tom" Starcevich was born on 5 September 1918 at Subiaco, Western Australia, the son of immigrants: Gertrude May Starcevich (ne Waters; born c. 1897, Dunkirk, Kent, England) and Joseph Starcevich (born c. 1892, Croatia-Slavonia, Austro-Hungarian Empire).
